Martyn Lewis

Martyn Lewis is a singer songwriter living in East Manchester who has been writing music for more years than he cares to remember and who returned to the live scene a couple of years ago, playing at local folk groups and various Open Mic venues in and around Manchester. Martyn’s music has its roots in the folk scene around Beverley, Hull and the North East of England. In the early seventies Martyn and his brother formed their group “Banned Everywhere” writing most of their own material and supplementing the line up with whoever was to hand at the time. When Martyn’s ‘day-job’ took over and he moved south, before finally returning to his roots with songs reflecting on his own surroundings, songs about East Manchester, love and politics. “Its pretty basic folk stuff but if the message is right it has a certain appeal and the audiences seem to love it” said Martyn. “Especially the topical political stuff”
